I Love You, Man: Bro-mantic comedy a keeper

I have to confess, I’ve had a crush on Paul Rudd since he played gay opposite Jennifer Aniston in The Object of my Affection. After supporting roles in a series of crass yet comic films like The 40 Year Old Virgin and Forgetting Sarah Marshall Rudd gets the chance to prove himself as a leading man, opposite Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, How I Met Your Mother.)

Rudd plays Pete Klaven, a real estate agent who proposes to his girlfriend Zooey (Rashida Jones). He soon realizes that he doesn’t have any guy friends, and thus no best man for his wedding, and embarks on a series of “Man-dates” to meet new friends. After some awkward and often hilarious interactions with other males, Rudd meets Sydney Fife at an open house. The two hit it off and soon Pete and Sydney are jamming to Rush and taking long walks on the beach.

While not a Judd Apatow movie, I Love You, Man does fall into that category of film he’s made famous, blending touching heartfelt characters with a few raunchy gags. There are a lot of familiar faces, including Saturday Night Live’s Andy Samburg as Pete’s little brother, and Jane Curtain as his Mom.

The audience for the screening of the show at Westhills Cinema howled throughout the entire show. Rudd’s take on the goofy Pete, who struggles to come up with cool lines, is immediately endearing and adorable. You kind of are torn between wanting him to get to the altar, and wanting to rip his clothes off and play with his chest hair. Well, at least if you are like me.

I Love You, Man proved to be a fun night out at the movies. It’s a great film for a date or with a group of friends. I for one have not yet tired of this style of comedy, and I Love You, Man is one of the better ones on the list.

In theatres now. http://www.iloveyouman.com/
