Urban Curvz Theatre is bringing their enormously successful production CURVILICIOUS, back to the Victor Mitchell Theatre on March 15. The production features local female artists doing as they please on stage, entertaining you with their talent and whit. They have donated their time to ensure that 100% of the proceeds go to the supporting Urban Curvz programming.
Urban Curvz is a local Calgary theatre company, founded in 2005, with the goal of creating professional productions that provide emerging and established female artists with better opportunities. It has many successful theatrical productions under its belt, including the CURVILICIOUS series,
Camera, Woman,
Queen Lear, and
Thy Neighbours Wife. It has won nine Betty Mitchell Awards, and continues to produce challenging productions that give strength to femaleness.
CURVILICIOUS 2010 will highlight many female artists making strides in the theatre community. Hosting this event is Calgary based actress and playwright Lindsay Burns, who created rave reviews in her one-woman performance of the VaJay Jay Monologues in 2007.
Performers include Betty Mitchell award winner Elinor Holt, stage and television actress Valerie Pearson, and this year’s Harry and Martha Cohen winner Patricia Benedict. Rounding out the cast are Calgary theatre greats Kathyrn Kerbes, Tammy Roberts, Jane MacFarlane, Ava Jane Markus, Julie Mortenson, Adrienne Smook, Esther Purves-Smith, and Nicola Elson.
Kathryn Waters, Artistic Director for Urban Curvz, is looking forward to this production. “CURVILICIOUS is much more than URBAN CURVZ annual fundraiser; it's one of the most exciting moments in our programming every year! The evening unfolds variety-show style, with a hilarious emcee and Calgary's most talented women taking the stage to share something unique with our one-night-only audience. We don't censor the event in any way, but let the performers do whatever they feel inspired to do, celebrating their creativity and letting them decide whether or not to step out of their comfort zones, or to showcase exactly what has brought them this far. And thanks to the generosity of the performers, the Pumphouse Theatre, and a whole bunch of volunteers, the event is an incredibly effective fundraiser, with all of the proceeds going to create engaging artistic opportunities for even more women! This year will feature everything from dramatic scenes to stilt-walking comedy, from musical performances to aerial acrobatics... and will be hosted by the absolutely fabulous Lindsay Burns and her man-tourage.”
Before the curtain at 7:30, there will be cocktails and a Silent Auction with over $2000 in items and services available for your bid. Again, 100% of these proceeds will go to funding the amazing projects Urban Curvz has lined up for future seasons.
This is a show that is not to be missed. Tickets are available on the Urban Curvz website and are selling fast. Remember this is a one night show, so get your tickets now.
