BEEF Bear Beer Bash in Edmonton
The days of longing for more Bear events in Edmonton are over. A group of Alberta Bears has decided that enough is enough and it was high time that a Bear event take place. Organized by the Alberta Bear Community (yes they have a Facebook group), BEEF, a Bear beer bash, will take place Saturday March 1st at Boots and Saddles in Edmonton.
“We wanted to get the Bear community together to chat and network as this would be the first time we would get to see each other. We approached the owners of Boots and they were very enthusiastic about it and we came up with some drink specials and so forth.” explains event co-organizer Daren Kavich. “This event is going to be just a very simple get together – but we hope to have these Beer Bashes at Boots every first Saturday of the month and eventually bring in DJs, Bear strippers, food specials, and other attractions. Eventually with enough members we will look towards expanding the events to other areas like camping trips, skiing trips, etc.”

Stop Murder Music
Egale Canada recently raised concerns that iTunes.ca, HMV Canada, and Archambault Musique were carrying music that encourages violence and hatred toward gays and lesbians. The Egale initiative entitled Stop Murder Music (Canada), compiled lists of offending dancehall artists carried by each vendor, with translations of offending lyrics. The lists included such artists as: Elephant Man, Buju Banton, TOK, and Sizzla Kalonji. The information was submitted to each company respectively, along with a letter requesting that the companies not allow themselves to continue as a platform for the sale or promotion of hate speech in music in Canada.
