Luck Be A Lady a Ring a Ding Ding

Theatre Review by Jason Clevett (From March 2010 Online)

After a few hit or miss shows, Jubilations Dinner Theatre knocks it out of the ballpark with the stellar Luck Be A Lady playing until April 11th.

A tribute to movies like the original Ocean's 11 and the rat pack, the show is set in a Casino where Frank (Jeremy Coulter) and Dino (Adrian Glass) are the lounge entertainers. The show works in part due to the chemistry of Coulter and Glass, who fill the room with energy and banter like long time friends. While not dead-on impersonators, they do an excellent job of paying tribute to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

This synergy comes from the rest of the cast as well, who all seem to be having a ball. Lux Will as the dimwitted but stunning Molly, gets some of the best lines in the show that had the audience howling with laughter. Another pairing that works is that of bitter couple Mr. Leone (Jesse Calvert), the casino boss and his desperate to be ex-wife Ginger (Shandra McQueen). Alexandra Hodge rounds out the cast as the casino manager Jo-Anne.

Even my concerns about not being familiar with the songs was erased. Instantly recognizable classics like It Had To Be You, Luck Be A Lady and Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime will have you tapping your toe and enjoying yourself. Coulter's rendition of My Way gave me goose bumps, and his hilarious run in drag doing Fever is another highlight.

Well sung, well acted, well cast, Luck Be A Lady is the type of show that reminds you of what Jubilations is at its heart: a fun night out, of interactive dinner theatre with people busting their humps to provide you with a memorable evening. With a new and improved menu and an excellent show, Luck Be A Lady is well worth checking out. If you've never been to Jubilations, or haven't been in awhile, it's a great way to discover (or re-discover) the theatre.
