What are you doing Labour Day weekend? If you are in the Edmonton area, make sure to stop by one of the three bars participating in HIV Edmonton’s The Big Gay Bar Challenge in support on the 2010 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life. The Junction Bar and Eatery, Flash Nightclub, and Woody’s Video Bar, (with the support of Gay Calgary and Edmonton Magazine) will be putting their best foot forward for an amazing and necessary cause.

The 2010 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life is being held on September 12 at Sir Winston Churchill Square. It has been an integral community event, and continues to branch out into new ways of rallying the community. The Big Gay Bar Challenge is one such form.

This is the first annual event and promises to be both fun and prosperous for both participants and recipients of the much needed funds. HIV Edmonton has also joined forces with Gay Calgary and Edmonton Magazine for the challenge, where the winner will receive bragging right in the form of a free colour ad in the October edition of Gay Calgary and Edmonton Magazine.

According to Joyce LaBriola of HIV Edmonton, “This challenge has been established by HIV Edmonton to not only raise funds for the 2010 AIDS Walk for Life, but to also demonstrate the generosity of Edmonton’s LGBT community.” This is seconded by Debra Jakubec, Executive Director of HIV Edmonton. “We are thrilled to launch this friendly competition here in Edmonton. The beauty of this challenge is the spirit of solidarity by the LGBT community.”

Each venue participating in The Big Gay Bar Challenge is holding a different fundraising event. Woody's will be holding a silent auction, while The Junction is doing a Bette Midler Drag Show.
