Following on the super-successful launch of Team Edmonton in February 2007, Team Edmonton will host another mixer to encourage the GLBT community to come out and explore the wide variety of sports and recreational activities that are available to them. The fun filled night is set up to encourage new and current participants to meet each other and build those important community ties that link groups together. As all of the GLBT sports and recreation groups in Edmonton have been invited to attend, and it is an ideal opportunity to promote oneself, sign up new recruits and make connections with other members of the GLBT community. Bowling, Curling, Swimming, Running, Bootcamp, Yoga, Volleyball, Pilates, Pole Dancing, Ballroom Dancing, Cycling, Outdoor Pursuits, Skating are all confirmed to be attending the event, and other activities are still signing up.

The evening isn’t just about schmoozing with Edmonton’s jocks and jockettes, as there are two special performances scheduled during the night. The Ballroom Dancing Group will be doing a jive demonstration and the Pole Dancing instructor will be on site to give a demonstration class to attendees.

The mixer will also be an ideal time for athletes involved with Badminton, Bowling, Curling, Ice Hockey, Swimming and Volleyball to come out and meet representatives from Apollo Calgary and register for the Western Cup, which is happening March 20th to 22nd. This is the second year that Team Edmonton and Apollo Friends in Sports have worked together on this event, proving that the GLBT communities have a great intercity team spirit and are willing to seek ways to share resources.

Speaking of resources, the Silent Auction at the event will be the most important fundraiser of the year for Team Edmonton. In addition to support from the event sponsors, Gay Calgary and Edmonton Magazine and Amber’s Brewing, there are great items to bid on from Laurie Blakeman MLA, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, Healthy Touch Massage, deVine Wines, EPM Empowernet, Totally Balanced, Prism Bar & Grill, Callingwood Flowers and Julie Lloyd LLP.

Part of the fun of the night will be heading out to a new venue. The event will be held at the hip industrial warehouse setting of Amber’s Brewing, a new micro brewery located near Old Strathcona. So for those who are just looking for an excuse to go out for night on the town, the event will be sure to provide a great start to the evening and hopefully provide an excuse to Come Out and Play!
