Dear Nina,
I have a problem. The problem is when I see a guy, I feel I would like to say "hi", but I am too shy! There is no way I could even dream of walking and starting a conversation with him. I have been shy all my life. Does love really come when you least expect it? Can you please help me?

Dear Loveless in Olds
I have no idea how old you are now but if you don’t get some nerve now, your new name will soon be "Old and Desperate in Olds". I’m sure you don’t want that now do ya? And now don’t be running out that door quite yet. You are more than likely suffering from some self esteem issues my dear, which is not uncommon considering most young gay males in suburbia do. That is why most of us move to the big city. The city protects us somehow from the evils we suffered at the hands of suburbia. It is where we can blend in, still be ourselves, and be free to love. There is a saying: "home is where the heart is". Sometimes you just have to look a little harder.
But in this day and age gay people are everywhere you just have to use your Gay-dar to find them. Once locked on, try making eye contact first, then give him a little smile. If he is interested you’ll know right away and it will give you some confidence to go talk to him. And yes, love does come when you least expect it, so give it time. Love may be a splendor thing but it can’t be rushed. When all of the cosmic forces connect and the time is right you’ll know. Take care my dear, and good luck!!
Yours truly
Nina
