Kill Your Television is proud to present the revival production of SHAKESPEARE’S R&J, a vibrant and hot-blooded adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, presented as part of Theatre Network’s Roxy Performance Series.

SHAKESPEARE’S R&J is the story of four male Catholic prep-school students, who break away from their regimented lives and secretly meet to read Romeo and Juliet, a play banned because of its sexuality and violence. The boys are quickly swept away by the story’s vibrancy and vitality. However the fun of the play-acting turns serious when two of the young men emerge in the title roles. Perceptions are challenged and love is redefined in this queer adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic tale of star-crossed lovers.

Kill Your Television first premiered SHAKESPEARE’S R&J to Edmonton audiences in 2002 (winner of the Sterling Award for Outstanding Independent Production). Their revival production, re-imagined by director Kevin Sutley, features a cast of Edmonton’s best emerging theatrical talent: Oscar Derkx (Citadel Theatre’s Peter and the Starcatcher), Luc Tellier (Citadel Theatre’s Shakespeare in Love), Braydon Dowler-Coltman (Edmonton Actors Theatre’s Burning Bluebeard), and Corben Kushneryk (Mayfield Dinner Theatre’s Jesus Christ Superstar).
