Artists for Life, in partnership with the Winspear Centre, will be presenting an unforgettable night of music and entertainment at the 9th annual event on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Presented by TD Bank this non-profit fundraising event will benefit Living Positive Through Positive Living.
"We are thrilled to join the Winspear Centre for the 9th Annual Artists for Life event," said Joyce LaBriola, Artists for Life Foundation Founder and Artistic Director. "This partnership between the historic Winspear and a small arts-based volunteer-run non-profit has been incredibly supportive and we are forever grateful to them."
This year’s headliner is none other than Canadian performer Lindi Ortega. From supporting Carrie Underwood on the CMA Awards to her opening slot on Chris Stapleton’s recent Canadian arena tour, Ortega is a sought-after and unique personality in Nashville’s music community and beyond.
The night also features the Canadian premiere of I Am Harvey Milk. This concept opera, directed and conducted by Daryl Price, weaves the story of Harvey Milk’s life from boyhood to his rise as the first openly gay man to hold public office in California to his assassination. Performed by Ron Long and the Emerald Chorus, this Andrew Lippa work is commissioned by San Francisco’s Gay Men’s Chorus, in honour of Harvey Milk and the 35th anniversary of the chorus.
This unique night also features local performers DJ Queerbait and MAN UP! The Winspear lobby will be a party unto itself, featuring our Inaugural Art Walk and hosted by local drag artist Tequila Mockingbird. Guests will enjoy pop-up burlesque and a silent auction with a night promising something for everyone.

About Artists for Life Foundation
Created in 2003 by four friends in New Jersey to honour the memory of their friend James, who had died of AIDS the same year, Artists for Life produces an event that raises funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS and its caregivers. After moving to Edmonton in 2007 and being embraced and inspired by the generous spirit of Edmonton’s arts community, Joyce LaBriola, one of the founding members, endeavoured to share James’ story and to maintain awareness of HIV/AIDS and to combat stigma. In 2009, Joyce founded Artists For Life with the mission to bring local artists together to raise funds and awareness for local non-profits serving marginalized communities, with the hope of one day eliminating stigma and discrimination. Since its inception, Artists for Life has raised nearly $300,000 for beneficiaries such as Little Warriors, HIV Edmonton, Camp fYrefly, YESS, Kindred House/Boyle McCauley, and Theatre Network.
