Happy New Year!

You might have noticed release of the magazine is not before the start of the month. After placing together the December issue, we found it very strange to be including Halloween photos with Christmas content. With all of the weekday holidays, we would have also to had to have the January issue ready to print pretty early too, which would force Christmas and New Year events to be in the February issue alongside of all the January events. We have also decided to change printers starting with the January issue, which means the magazine is now glued instead of stapled, and there is a faster turn around for the magazine from file to delivery. So what will occur is that the magazine will now be available just a couple days after the start of the month, so that all the events from the month before can be included. This will also provide more time for non-profit groups and bars to be able to submit their events.

During the month of December, we came across a lot of events in the community. It is really nice to see the diversity of the gay community in Calgary and the different ways they celebrate the holidays. There are a lot of photos showing these great events. We had the opportunity to sponsor a fund-raiser for the Children’s Wish Foundation at Detour. Over a period of about 3 days, Detour staff, Priape and GayCalgary.com were able to raise close to $1,300.00. I personally thank all the people that gave and thank the following businesses that donated prizes for the raffle; Priape, Twigs, Victoria’s Restaurant, Hair 2000 (Stylist - Jae), Calgary Opera, Money-Pennies, Famous Players Theatres, Starbucks Coffee, 4th Street Liquor Store and Steel Sensations.

In this issue, you will see New Year’s Eve photos from all seven gay bars in the city. GayCalgary.com is committed to providing coverage of what is happening in Calgary. We are sitting with 32 pages of Calgary content, and we know as the community grows in 2004, you will see the magazine and website grow too.

All the best in 2004!
