Fresh off the heels of releasing his debut EP, Stewart will play several Pride festivals this June including Toronto Pride on June 23 (6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.) at Church and Wellesley, followed by opening for famed Boy George & Culture Club in Montreal on August 25
With over 80,000 streams and downloads under his belt from the April release of debut EP ‘7 Different Sides’, Toronto-based singer-songwriter Cory Stewart is thrilled to announce the Pride release of his new single ‘Boyfriend Material’. Due June 15, 2018, the single produced and written by Stewart and JUNO award-winning musician Gavin Bradley (who has worked with artists like Nelly Furtado, Kylie Minogue and Tori Amos), is an electric summer anthem, reminiscent of "Call Me Maybe", embellished with upbeat guitars, catchy lyrics and Stewart’s signature pop flavour. The release of ‘Boyfriend Material’ will be accompanied by an official Pride remix of ‘My Gay Heart’, a track from EP ‘7 Different Sides’.
With his debut single ‘7 Different Sides’ already receiving radio play in Canada, Cory is scheduled to perform at various Pride festivals including Pride Toronto this June. Then this August, Stewart will take the stage at Montreal’s famed Strangers In The Night Gala, where he will open for the iconic musical act Boy George & Culture Club.
Recently, Stewart’s music has been hailed as "fearless, unapologetic and relentlessly catchy" by Canadian Beats and described by Addicted Magazine as "playful but still holds a meaning and message that resonates". Making his mark on the Canadian music industry, Cory aims to give voice to issues the LGBTQ+ community experiences on a day-to-day basis.
"Growing up in a community where I had gasoline, cigarettes and rocks thrown at me while trying to just enter my high school, it feels liberating and empowering to release a song like Boyfriend Material," says Stewart. "This song follows the story of falling in love in a same-sex relationship, a subject that desperately needs representation in not just the Canadian music industry, but in music around the world."
‘Boyfriend Material’ will be available for stream and purchase on all major music platforms beginning June 15, 2018, including Amazon, Anghami, Apple Music, MediaNet, Deezer, Google Play/YouTube, iHeartRadio, ClaroMusica, iTunes, Napster, Pandora, Saavn, Shazam, Spotify, and Tidal.
