A new study has analyzed anonymous data from 6500 gay men registered with premium dating site EliteSingles, and found Canada’s monogamy, marriage, and romance hotspots.
Ontario is home to Canada’s most monogamy-focused gay singles
The most marriage-minded gay men can be found in Quebec
Canada’s biggest romantics are in Newfoundland and Labrador
EliteSingles spokesperson Michael Middleton says ‘’the search for long-lasting and committed love is simply a part of the human condition.’’
Ontario is a monogamy hotspot
Want to meet a monogamous man? According to dating site EliteSingles’ large-scale study of 6500 gay Canadians, Ontario is the best place to start the search.
The company analyzed the average level of agreement with the statement ‘monogamy is important for me and should be for my partner’ in each province. The higher the average level of agreement, the more monogamy-focused the men in that province were deemed to be.
It turns out that it’s great news for gay singles seeking commitment in Toronto - men in Ontario place the most importance on monogamy. Ontario is followed by Alberta in second place, then B.C. (3rd), Manitoba (4th), and Quebec (5th).
A word of caution with these results, however. EliteSingles is a dating site designed for those seeking committed relationships. Thus, a lower monogamy ranking doesn’t imply that singles in that province only want hookups. Far from it! In fact, the study showed that gay men in Canada consistently rank monogamy as one of the most vital relationship goals, giving it a higher average importance ranking than romance or even marriage.
Want to find a husband? It might be time to learn French
For those gay Canadians whose relationship goals do include marriage, it might be time to start learning how to say ‘I do’ in French: when the company analyzed average levels of agreement with the statement ‘marriage is important for me and should be for my partner’, Quebec emerged as the most marriage-minded province of all.
Second place on the marriage scale goes to Manitoba, with Alberta (3rd), Newfoundland and Labrador (4th), and British Columbia (5th) rounding out the top five.
Gay romance starts in Newfoundland and Labrador
The final statement the company analyzed was ‘I bring romance to my relationships,’ and it seems that nowhere in Canada are gay men more willing to be romantic than in Newfoundland and Labrador.
However, proving that romance is a coast-to-coast thing, British Columbia took out second place, followed by Ontario in third, Alberta (4th) and New Brunswick (5th).
Relationship-minded gay men? It’s hardly a surprise
If there is one thing that this study has shown, it's that you can find romantic, relationship-ready, monogamous gay men all over the country. And, as EliteSingles spokesperson Michael Middleton puts it, we shouldn't be surprised: ''from the outside, the LGBT community is sometimes seen as non-traditional, but in truth the search for long-lasting and committed love is simply a part of the human condition. We all want it, regardless of our sexuality''
He goes on to add ''it’s interesting to see the differences from region to region, but more telling is that monogamy, marriage and romance are all valued so highly, and consistently, right across Canada. The EliteSingles study goes a long way to prove that perception and reality are poles apart.''
