KIND partners with the community of Sunalta to provide funding and resources to inner-city Calgary

Announcing the launch of Nourish Your Neighbourhood: the KIND® Snacks and imagine Sunalta project. In honour of Neighbour Day, this new partnership will help revitalize one of Calgary’s most vibrant, diverse, and dynamic inner-city communities. KIND donates products and funding to Sunalta and launches KIND® Breakfast in Calgary.

imagine Sunalta is a collaborative project that hopes to radically transform the neighbourhood and improve the quality of life in Calgary’s inner city. Through an extensive community engagement process, the Sunalta Community Association developed a strategic plan that includes a new gathering space to improve food security, eliminate social isolation, and create a neighbourhood living room where all are welcome. The Community Association recently launched its fundraising campaign in support of the project.

"The Sunalta Community Association currently operates beyond capacity. Here, one in four residents are low income and 34% of residents live alone – three times the Calgary average," states Jenn Balderston, Executive Director of the Sunalta Community Association. "Our proposed new gathering space will give community members access to supports, events, activities, and social enterprise to generate revenue and ensure sustainability."

KIND was founded in 2004 with the following mission: do the KIND thing for your body, your taste buds and your world™. To deepen this mission, they created The KIND Foundation to foster kinder and more empathetic communities. On June 12, KIND will award the Sunalta Community Association a donation of $5,000 for funding, products for future use and potential programs in the community kitchen.

Through The KIND Foundation, we strive to embrace our shared humanity and improve the way we relate to one another," states Stacey Bowman, Director of Marketing. "We are honoured to support the Sunalta Community Association in their continued efforts to celebrate and inspire kindness."

The Nourish Your Neighbourhood brunch is the first in a series of community-driven events led by KIND on the week leading up to Neighbour Day. The June 12 event will also serve as the exclusive launch for KIND® Breakfast in Calgary. This on-the-go breakfast option contains five whole grains, at least 8 grams of protein and fibre to promote fullness. Each pack of KIND® Breakfast contains two bars.
