Edmonton’s Sea Change Brewing Co. is dedicated to supporting the events and groups that are defining the culture of our fine city. What better place to start than with a delicious collaboration with the Fruit Loop Society, YEG’s favourite LGBTQ2+ community fundraising non-profit organization. Fruit Loop has been curating and programming amazing fundraising events in our city for over five years in support of local LGBTQ2+ organizations. Together, we envisioned Fruit Loop having its own fruity beer to complement its special nights - one that would support the LGBTQ2+ community with every pint poured. Sea Change Brewing Co. and the Fruit Loop Society are therefore proud to introduce Prairie Fairy!
A blackberry and raspberry wheat ale with a striking pink hue, Prairie Fairy is a bold and refreshing beer that will surely turn heads and awaken taste buds. In recognition of the Fruit Loop Society’s support of LGBTQ2+ initiatives in the city, Sea Change is proud to donate 10% of proceeds from every keg sold to Fruit Loop so that together we can keep awareness and community engagement at the forefront.
The Prairie Fairy concept recognizes and embraces the long and distinct history of LGBTQ2+ peoples on the Canadian prairies. In taking on this name, we celebrate the hardworking LGBTQ2+ farmers, the revered healers in the two-spirit community, the glamorous drag queens in small-town bars, and the pioneers past and present who helped shape the community as we know it today.
Funds raised through this partnership will directly support the Fruit Loop Society as it helps generate much-needed dollars for local community LGBTQ2+ organizations. Over the past five years, Fruit Loop has supported many deserving groups, including HIV Edmonton, the Edmonton Two-Spirit Society, the Canadian Native Friendship Centre (Edmonton), the Edmonton and Jasper Pride Festivals, the Pride Centre of Edmonton, the Edmonton Men’s Health Collective, the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies & Services at the University of Alberta, and the Imperial Sovereign Court of the Wildrose. This partnership between Sea Change Brewing Co. and the Fruit Loop Society will allow for continued support of these and other great community organizations.
We would like to acknowledge and thank Have Mercy Southern Table & Bar for being the first to make Prairie Fairy a permanent tap at their establishment.
Some tasting notes from head brewer Taylor Falk:
A simple, clean malt bill featuring Alberta wheat and two-row barley provides the perfect backdrop to a refreshingly tart explosion of blackberries and raspberries. Organic raspberries and blackberries provide genuine, acidic fruit flavour without overwhelming the palate with cloying sweetness.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Wheat, Hops, Yeast, Organic Blackberries, Organic Raspberries
5.0% ABV
Special side-note:
Blackberries and raspberries are some of the most anti-oxidant rich foods one can consume. In fact, they are nutritional powerhouses full of vitamins and minerals. Sea Change has put almost SEVEN POUNDS of these organically grown berries in every keg! So you can feel good while (responsibly!) knocking back a Prairie Fairy or two with your friends!
